When you support a girl’s education, you create change for her, her family and her entire community.

Education is a human right, yet barriers to education disproportionately affect girls. To go to school, girls in many communities must overcome challenges like cultural bias, discrimination, poverty and violence. The pandemic made matters worse — millions more girls now risk dropping out of school or falling behind.

Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program has supported more than 3.4 million girls to date, changing gender paradigms in historically low-income communities and strengthening support for girls’ education.

122 million girls around the world are not in school. You can create change with Room to Read.

This International Day of the Girl and throughout the month of October, Room to Read invites you to create the change you wish to see in the world through You Create Change, our flagship campaign to create a world free from gender inequality through our Girls' Education Program. Together, we can support girls with the opportunity to develop life skills, complete their education and reshape their futures.

You Create Change is inspired by the remarkable young women featured in Room to Read's first-of-its-kind animated and live-action film She Creates Change — Dewmini, Diksha, Keya, Naifat, Trang and Yashika — who discover their power through Room to Read's gender equality programming and inspire more girls to be the heroes of their own stories.

You can create change for more real-life heroes.

One dollar a day, or $30 a month, is all it takes to support a girl through secondary school.
