Charity Navigator, America's largest, most utilized, independent evaluator of charities, has once again awarded Room to Read its coveted 4-star rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. Since 2007, this is the twelfth year Room to Read has received the award. Less than 1 percent of charities have received the 4-star ratings for 12 years, according to Charity Navigator.

Charity Navigator bases its rating analysis on a charity’s financial health, accountability, and transparency. Room to Read has proudly earned its 4-star rating for continuing to execute its mission in a fiscally responsible manner, with 87.88% of total expenses directed toward program costs. The rating of 100 out of a possible 100 for accountability and transparency reinforces Room to Read’s commitment to clear financial discipline and oversight, which includes annual independent audits and the open publication of its financial records.

“We take an incredible amount of pride in achieving 4-star ratings for 12 years,” said Shari Freedman, Room to Read’s Chief Financial Officer. “The rating validates our dedication to effectively and efficiently using our resources to champion world change and assures our donors that their investment is being used wisely.”

According to Charity Navigator Founder and Board Chairman John P. Dugan, this “exceptional” designation differentiates Room to Read from its peers and demonstrates to the public the organization is worthy of their trust.
