Callan Farris, actor, musician, and student, has been named an ambassador for Room to Read, a global non-profit focused on literacy and girls’ education. The announcement was made last night by Dr. Geetha Murali, Room to Read CEO at the Pasadena Public Library during an event featuring Farris and Stuart Gibbs, New York Times bestselling children’s book author. Farris has committed to a personal fundraising goal of US$35,000 to support Room to Read’s literacy and girls’ education program in India. Fans and supporters can donate to his campaign at https://give.roomtoread.org/callan.
Farris’s philanthropic commitment is aligned with Room to Read’s global movement called Active for Education, https://www.roomtoread.org/get-active, which encourages supporters around the world to activate their body and mind through personalized fundraising campaigns. As a Room to Read ambassador, Farris will participate in awareness raising activities to advocate for Room to Read’s programs in literacy and girls’ education, which enable students to reach their full potential and contribute to society.
“I have spent countless hours immersed in the pages of my favorite books and am honored to support Room to Read so that more children can experience the magic and joy of reading,” said Callan Farris. “I encourage students everywhere to take action alongside me so that together, we can unlock the potential of a generation of young learners around the world.”
Farris stars in The Disney Channel’s “Gabby Duran and the Unsittables”, premiering later this year. Previous roles include “Ruben” opposite Halle Berry and Daniel Craig in the 2018 film KINGS, directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven; a recurring role as “Kazim” on ABC’s “Roseanne” and “The Conners”; and roles in pilots for ABC, NBC, and CBS. He has played guest starred on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Dr. Ken”, CBS’s “Seal Team”, Netflix’s “Fuller House”, Disney’s “Stuck in the Middle”, and TV Land’s “Teachers”. He has appeared in a number of national television commercials.
“Callan Farris is paying it forward so that more students are given the opportunity to imagine endless possibilities for their futures,” said Dr. Geetha Murali, Room to Read’s CEO. “Thanks to the action he will inspire, hundreds of early learners will benefit from a school library stocked with original local language storybooks and trained educators, and girls in secondary school will acquire life skills and mentorship to help them succeed within and beyond the classroom.”
