New York Marathon
The 2017 TCS New York City Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2017. The annual marathon (42.195 km/26.219 mi) that courses through the five boroughs of New York City is the largest marathon in the world and Room to Read is a proud Charity Partner of the event. The race is organized by New York Road Runners Club and has been held every year since 1970. Room to Read's global network has been getting active for education for years. From global yoga-thons to reading competitions to races and rickshaw adventures, our supporters are inspired to take action for our Literacy and Girls' Education Programs in fun, engaging, healthy and creative ways. Our three-year campaign, Active for Education, will leverage this passion to take action through peer-to-peer challenges that get people unified and excited. Individuals, companies, employees and teams across the globe will be encouraged to set up their own challenge campaigns and raise funds and awareness by getting Active for Education. About Room to Read: Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, we develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond. Room to Read invests in nearly one million children each year and aims to invest in the lives of at least 15 million children by 2020.
