#GivingTuesday Results

2020 has been different than we expected in so many ways, but one thing that still holds true is the Room to Read community coming together to create a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality in education. Even in the midst of a pandemic, you and hundreds of other Room to Read supporters have united to support education this Giving Tuesday.

From all of us at Room to Read, thank you for your support!

“We are very happy to see that there are still people who recognize our presence, appreciate and cares for us. We are very grateful for Room to Read efforts. We love your words of encouragement so much, and we love you too. ” Room to Read Student Tanzania

Our Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Over the last three days, 587 members of the Room to Read community contributed $194,650 to support education in low-income communities. Combined with the generous investments of our match partners Anne and Susan Wojcicki and The Deena Jo Heide-Diesslin Foundation, we raised a total of $494,650.

That's enough to:

  • Support 5,000 students in our Literacy Program with distance learning for a full year
  • Provide remote mentoring and life skills training for 1,000 participants in our Girls' Education Program for a full year
  • Build capacity for 70 teachers as they navigate distance learning with limited resources
  • Print and distribute 20,000 local language children's books

This is powerful evidence that when enough people come together, real change can happen. We know how to solve illiteracy and gender inequality in education, and thanks to your support this Giving Tuesday and all year long, we can.
