About Room to Read

Education is the single most effective tool that exists for eradicating global poverty. Room to Read works across Asia and Africa to improve literacy and gender equality in education. We work with local communities to establish libraries, construct schools, publish local-language children’s books, train teachers in reading and writing instruction, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Now operating in nine countries in Asia and Africa, we’re on track to reach 10 million children by 2015.

Help Us Do More

We were honored to have Nick Kristof visit our projects in Vietnam last week and share our story in The New York Times. As his columns clearly illustrate, education has the power to change lives and entire communities in the developing world. You can be a part of that change by investing in our work. Funds collected will support our work across Asia and Africa, to help millions of children in other developing countries discover a better future for themselves and their families.
