Room to Read has announced that She Creates Change is officially a People’s Voice Winner in the category of Video & Film — Public Service & Activism in the 29th Annual Webby Awards Internet Celebration 

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet. IADAS, which nominates and selects The Webby Award Winners are selected by a judging body of Internet industry experts, including Quinta Brunson, Writer, Director, and Actor; Todd Kaplan, Chief Marketing Officer, Kraft Heinz; Jaime Teevan, Chief Scientist, Microsoft; Desiree Perez, CEO, Roc Nation; Law Roach, Image Architect; Shigetaka Kurita, Artist & Father of Emojis; Severin Hacker, Cofounder & CTO, Duolingo; Marian Croak, VP of Engineering – Responsible AI & Human Centered Technology, Google; Sarah Harden, CEO, Hello Sunshine; Questlove, DJ and Producer; Bob Carrigan, CEO, Audible; and Katie Couric, Journalist.

She Creates Change is the first nonprofit-led animation and live action film project to promote gender equality through the stories of young women around the world. The film tells the true stories of six courageous girls from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Nepal, India and Tanzania who each confront barriers to their education with foundational life skills learned through Room to Read’s gender equality programming and use the power of their voices to advocate for change. 

Through She Creates Change — a multi-media initiative which includes books and audio stories in addition to the film — Room to Read seeks to support all adolescent girls in the world with content that equips and inspires them to create positive change in their lives and communities.

She Creates Change is also recognized as an honoree in the category of Video & Film, Branded Entertainment – Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging.

She Creates Change will be honored at the 29th Annual Webby Awards in New York City on May 12th.Hosted by comedian Ilana Glazer (Broad City, Babes, Good Night, Good Luck) the Webby Awards’ star-studded ceremony celebrates the best of the Internet.
