We can’t wait to travel with you!
Dar es Salaam has one international airport, allowing people to fly from all over the world. Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) is located approximately 10km from the city center.
Hotel options:
Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro
Per the itinerary, the Hyatt Regency will serve as the central location for our activities, including the welcome dinner, meeting point for the program visit day, and board meetings. To ensure ease of coordination and travel, all Room to Read staff will be staying on-site. We highly recommend that you also choose to stay at the Hyatt Regency for convenience and a seamless experience.
If you prefer to stay off-site, we suggest the nearby Dar es Salaam Serena.
If you are considering staying somewhere other than the Hyatt Regency, we strongly encourage you to check the traveling time (including commuting traffic) between hotels before booking. Guests will need to arrange their own transfers to and from the Hyatt.
Airport Transfers: Please arrange your airport transfer directly through your hotel.
Our guidance about applying for visas comes directly from the Ministry of Immigration in Tanzania. Please follow the instructions below, even if you are traveling to Tanzania early for other personal/vacation plans. If you have any questions or challenges with these instructions, email us at travel@roomtoread.org. If you have any questions once your application has been submitted, email visatanzania@immigration.go.tz.
Before applying for a visa, ensure that each applicant’s passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and has at least one blank page for the visa stamp.
Give yourself plenty of time in advance to apply. At times, the Tanzania visa website can have trouble loading or responding and gives the error, “The site can’t be reached”. We recommend completing your application at least six weeks in advance of your travel.
Be aware that there are many sites online that offer to navigate the Tanzania visa process as outside service providers. Unless you are on the official Tanzania immigration website, those sites will cost you additional service fees, and we cannot guarantee their legitimacy.
