Make Room to Read 2026

This September, don’t take reading for granted.

Every day, we read without thinking about it. A text. A subject line. A prescription label. A bedtime story. Directions home. We often take reading for granted. That’s not the case for millions of children who are still waiting for room to learn. That’s why Room to Read works with communities around the world to help more children access more books — books that spark a love of reading and learning, support strong literacy skills and unlock a future of new possibilities.

Make Room to Read

This September, join a global effort to celebrate the power of reading while helping children around the world access books and education. By making room to read in your own life, you can make room to read for children around the world.

Participating is simple:

1. Pledge to Read. Set a goal to read for a certain number of minutes in September – on your own, as a class, or with a group.

2. Track and share your progress. For every minute you read, invite your network to support you by making an equivalent donation to promote education worldwide.

3. Raise funds for literacy. Every USD $1 donated can provide a brand-new book for a child facing deep educational, gender and economic inequities.

One minute of reading can become one new book for a child.

Anyone can Make Room to Read.

Pledge to read. Share your progress. Raise funds for literacy.

Book clubs, workplace giving, student groups, families, and anyone who wants to make a difference can make room for more children to read, learn and grow! Whether you use our platform to create a team or individual fundraising page, or go analog, we have digital and printable resources for you: from printable reading tracker, flyers and bookmarks to social media assets, sample messaging and a curated reading list from our global community of readers and literacy experts. Check back soon to download the full toolkit of resources and turn September into a literacy celebration.
