On May 16, Room to Read once again inspired action among the business, media, and entertainment communities at our annual New York Gala. Gathered together in support of global education at Bay Room, our network raised $3.2 million to benefit 64,000 children through Room to Read's Literacy and Girls' Education programs. Event honorees Amber Tamblyn, author, actress, director and activist, and Tidjane Thiam, Credit Suisse CEO were recognized for their commitments to female empowerment and children’s literacy. The evening culminated in performances by 11-year old powerhouse, DJ Switch Ghana and Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and musician, Wyclef Jean.
