Prisca Mdee is the literacy director at Room to Read in Tanzania, where she leads the design and implementation of initiatives aimed at strengthening children’s foundational literacy skills. Her work focuses on developing high-quality teaching and learning materials, supporting teacher professional development through structured training, continuous coaching, self-learning modules, and learner assessment, as well as enhancing library systems to promote a culture of reading.
She works closely with government and other partners to ensure the effective delivery of literacy programs, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, quality and impact at scale. Prisca also contributes to strategic planning, program improvement and alignment with national education priorities.
Her strong background in education leadership and policy implementation is grounded in extensive experience within Tanzania’s education sector, including her previous role as a Regional Education Specialist under the UK-funded EQUIP-T program. In this role, she supported government-led efforts to improve foundational learning, strengthen teacher professional development systems and enhance overall education system performance.
