Reading Challenge 2025

The End of Impossible

With proven tools, we know how to solve the illiteracy crisis. We just need the capital to do it. Let's reverse the notion that the end of these challenges is impossible.

Reading has the power to unlock imagination, build lifelong skills, and open doors to opportunity. When you take the Make Room to Read Challenge, you’re joining a global movement to create a more literate, equitable world—one page at a time.

Every child deserves the chance to learn, dream, and thrive. Yet, 7 out of 10 children in low- and middle-income countries can’t read by age 10—a crisis that limits futures and potential. Economic instability, climate disasters, and inadequate educational resources further widen the gap.

But there’s hope. With Room to Read’s support, schools become beacons of opportunity. Educators are trained, books are accessible, and children develop a lifelong love for reading. These readers grow into empowered individuals, equipped to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

With the Make Room to Read Campaign, YOU can help engage more children around the world in reading, inspiring a generation of lifelong learners. When you Make Room to Read, you will be joining our story to ensure every child can become the author of their own extraordinary future.

If you haven't already, take the pledge now!

Please review Room to Read's Visitor Agreement and Child Protection Code of Conduct. This waiver must be signed prior to the visit by each participant and will be sent to you from our team via DocuSign.

In order to enter Indonesia, you will need a valid passport with at least one blank page and six months validity remaining. It is likely that you will need to purchase a visa-on-arrival which costs around USD 35. If you are travelling from select ASEAN countries, you will not be required to purchase a visa.

Please note that if your country is not on the visa-on-arrival list, you will need to apply for a B211A Visit Visa in advance.

Check what applies to you here.

Travellers aged 18 or above are required to show proof of vaccination (2 or more doses) on arrival. See the full COVID-19 entry requirements here.

All trip participants should visit their doctor at least 4-6 weeks in advance of their departure date to discuss recommendations and immunization prior to travelling.

For more information on immunizations either recommended or needed for travel to Indonesia, please visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s website.
