Thank you for your interest in Room to Read’s Trek to Uttarakhand, India in November 2017! This trek will be an opportunity to get active and travel with Room to Read Co-founders John Wood, Dinesh Shrestha and Erin Ganju, to commemorate reaching 50,000 girls through the Girls' Education Program. During this trek, you will have a chance to learn from our leadership about the incredible impact you've helped us achieve, and to celebrate this exciting milestone.

You and a small group of Room to Read investors will meet with our in-country team and interact closely with the children, parents and teachers in our programs. Included below are details about the trek itinerary, costs and required forms. This site will be updated as details are finalized so be sure to check back frequently. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or would like additional information. We look forward to traveling with you!

In order to enter India, you will need a valid passport with at least two blank pages and six months validity remaining. The passport and any other required travel documents are to be presented along with the appropriate visa to the Immigration Control Officer at any entry point, such as border station, airport or harbor. To see visa requirements and apply for an e-visa, visit this website.

Requirements for entry into India differ from country to country, and are subject to change. Always make inquiries before travelling to India by checking with the appropriate embassy or consulate.

Additionally, we highly encourage US travelers to register with the US Government Smart Traveler Enrollment Program by visiting the STEP website.

All trip participants should visit their doctor at least 4-6 weeks in advance of their departure date. While Room to Read can advise about the risk of certain diseases, such as malaria, in areas where participants will be traveling, the organization cannot make recommendations for specific medications. Participants should ask their doctor for recommendations about malaria pills and other travel medications and immunizations.

For more information on immunizations either recommended or needed for travel to India, please visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s website.

Room to Read strongly recommends that participants purchase travel insurance, or ensure that their regular insurance plans cover travel-related illnesses and injuries. All participants will be requested to provide insurance information prior to travel.
