Room to Read India's Literacy Program is the country's only children’s education program that develops both literacy skills and reading habits. Our Girls’ Education Program supports girls to finish secondary school and works with government stakeholders to advocate for girls' education.
Home to over one billion people, India is a diverse and complex country with a rich history. Despite improvements in recent years, access to quality education remains poor in India, and educational opportunities are unevenly distributed.
Room to Read India launched in 2003 and it is now our largest operating region. We partner with government schools in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Telangana.
Our partnerships with local organizations and governments help us amplify our impact. With the overall increase in enrollment in primary school, decline in dropout rates, and the mandatory inclusion of school libraries under the Right to Education Act, Room to Read is prepared to further our programs across India in a long-lasting and scalable way.
