With a gift to Room to Read Bangladesh, you can provide life-changing educational resources to children who face the greatest barriers in gaining a quality education. Every contribution goes toward the most pressing priorities, including:
Literacy
Expanding learning opportunities to pre-primary students
In 2025, a portion of your investment will help open doors for the youngest learners in Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar district. Room to Read is pioneering a critical initiative to improve pre-primary curriculum in partnership with the local government, focusing on igniting children’s passion for literacy and learning. To date, as part of a national education committee, Room to Read has supported the development of culturally responsive book guides and teaching materials that build essential cognitive and language skills for early learners. In 2025, with your support, Room to Read aims to launch these resources across 200 schools in Moulvibazar, reaching pre-primary students who lack access to high-quality early learning experiences. Your support will provide critical resources to implement this locally contextualized curriculum and train educators in child-centered methodologies, building an essential foundation for scaling this work to more young students.
Scaling access to school libraries
After years of dedicated work, Room to Read is at a critical turning point in Bangladesh that can ensure every child has access to a school library in the coming years. The Government of Bangladesh has now embraced our library model, marking a pivotal moment in our mission to bring quality reading spaces to students nationwide. To realize this goal, in partnership with Bangladesh’s Department of Primary Education, Room to Read has established inspiring library spaces in 11 Primary Teacher Training Institute-based schools that are now serving as crucial training centers for future teachers and education officials. These model libraries are more than physical spaces—they are powerful demonstration sites that showcase the transformative potential of accessible, engaging reading environments, and are training educators on how to replicate quality libraries and reading activities at their schools. By creating these strategic learning hubs, we are planting the seeds for a nationwide network of classroom libraries that can fundamentally reshape how children experience learning. Your investment will help build upon this work to ensure more educators are learning how to establish and manage quality libraries, and are equipped to nurture a generation of passionate readers.

Gender Equality
Exploring innovations in life skills education to reach all adolescent students
In support of the need to reach more students, more quickly, with life skills, Room to Read aims to train secondary school teachers in Bangladesh to teach a gender-inclusive life skills curriculum and provide mentorship to students. In 2025, this will include testing a framework for a shorter, 4-year Life Skills and Mentoring program implemented through teachers, rather than Social Mobilizers, as part of the standard school day. Through this approach, Room to Read anticipates reaching more students, including boys, with a curriculum that helps build essential knowledge and life skills to combat gender inequalities and ensure every student can make informed decisions about their futures. Involving boys and men in gender equality initiatives helps challenge stereotypes, encourages them to be allies in the fight against gender-based discrimination, and supports the development of more inclusive, compassionate attitudes and behaviors. Room to Read believes that transforming outdated gender roles and power dynamics requires the participation and commitment of people of all genders. Your generosity will be invaluable in helping reach more adolescents with essential life skills, while also combating harmful gender norms that inhibit all students from building the futures they want for themselves.
Integrating life skills curriculum onto national platforms
When a young girl finds the courage to speak up for her dreams or learns to solve problems with creativity and empathy, these are the real-life superpowers that become shields against early marriage and beacons guiding them towards education and empowerment. The government of Bangladesh recognizes the life-changing potential of these skills, and Room to Read’s expertise in teaching these skills and has invited Room to Read to help strengthen the national life skills curriculum for secondary school students. In 2025, Room to Read aims to adapt our life skills curriculum to be uploaded onto government platforms and host workshops with government officials on rolling out life skills resources to educators and schools nationwide.
