A volunteer-run chapter of Room to Read
Help us reach our goal
Provide communities with the tools they need to succeed.
Donor Honor Roll
One of the Best Volunteer Opportunities in LondonVolunteer
The vision of the London Chapter is to share the work of Room to Read with London residents and businesses. We support Room to Read's belief that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and will focus our goals to help provide access to education to millions of children.
Volunteering with the London Chapter is not only a great way to help further Room to Read’s mission but also an opportunity to develop new skills and make connections with like-minded individuals.

Get Involved with the London Chapter
As the chapter is run entirely by volunteers we're always looking for more people with the skills, enthusiasm and time to help us grow. Volunteering with the dynamic London Chapter can be a very rewarding experience and we pride ourselves on the high calibre of people we have working together to support global literacy.
A range of volunteer opportunities exist throughout the year, rangin from long-term leadership roles, to short-term event management, to ad hoc roles that crop up as the chapter evolves. Many of our volunteer opportunities are not glamourous! They usually involve rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck into the task at hand - which could include speaking at schools, managing volunteers, manning information tables, organising events, photography, administration, designing graphics, writing articles, sourcing raffle items etc.
If this sounds like you, refer to support material on our London Volunteer Portal.
Opportunity: Social Media - we're looking for 2-3 communications professionals and/or social media gurus to maintain the lifeblood of our social media channels (facebook, twitter, linked in). Content can be largely sourced from our events schedule and a range of global Room to Read resources. Anticipated workload is 1-1.5 days a month (includes a few hours at the start of each month drafting the content, then time for posting/refinement/responses throughout the month). If you're able to supply your time in an ongoing capacity to ensuring our social media channels are dynamic and informative, please contact us now!
Opportunity: Volunteer Management – we’re looking for team members who can make an ongoing commitment to supporting our volunteers, which can include facilitating quarterly information sessions, maintaining our volunteer database, briefing volunteers for our signature events etc. This is a rewarding role, particularly great for someone who enjoys meeting new people and is a natural ambassador for Room to Read.
Opportunity: Public Relations – we’re currently looking for someone with PR capabilities and contacts, to help build more awareness of our volunteer chapter and ways individuals, teams and organisations can get involved and make a difference.
Opportunity: Students Helping Students - we're looking for volunteers who are keen to work with schools, universities or business schools, to support and co-ordinate student events to raise awareness and funds for Room to Read. This could be a book swap, a film screening, a class presentation or a school-wide challenge! If you're able to supply your time in an ongoing capacity (or even on a school-by-school capacity) to help activate students to help students, please contact us now. In particular, we're looking for someone who is keen to take on a leadership role and co-ordinate our Students Helping Students activities on an ongoing basis.
Opportunity: Calling all exercise junkies, especially yogis and runners - we have a range of opportunities to raise funds via yoga, running or general sports events in 2015 and need volunteers to help coordinate these efforts. We're looking for people with an interest in yoga, pilates, barre, running, marathons etc. who are good organisers. If you’re keen to either co-ordinate or participate in a team of volunteers to organise one of these events, please let us know!
