For Parents

Parents are integral to the success of a Students Helping Students program. Either by supporting your child's project or by serving as a role model for young social entrepreneurs, you can help ensure that your child gains the most out of his/her project.

We have included a mini lesson for parents on Raising the Next Generation of Problem Solvers. In it there are some great ideas on how parents can support their child's fundraising activities so that everyone benefits.

If you would like to get more involved in Room to Read, there are a few ways to do so:

Join one of our Volunteer Teams: Many facets of our organization are managed by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. We have amazing chapters in most major cities that spread awareness and raise funds for Room to Read. This year our chapters raised over US$1 million for our programs. You can read more about how to volunteer on the Chapters page on our web site. (Please note that we do not offer volunteer opportunities in our program countries. For more details on why, please see our Frequently Asked Questions.)

Sign up for our Monthly Newsletter: We maintain an email distribution list for anyone interested in developments or events related to Room to Read. We generally send out one email newsletter a month filled with inspiring stories and results of what we have achieved. Sign up on our Email Sign-up page on our web site.

Sponsor a Project

  • There are hundreds of villages that need new schools, libraries, and computer labs in our partner countries. We often connect supporters with a specific project for which they raise funds. The supporter gets to choose language for a dedication plaque, and can even visit the school or lab for the opening ceremony. To find out more information about how to adopt a project, email shs@roomtoread.org.
  • For only US$250 a year, you can change a girl's life through education. Find out more by visiting the Girls Scholarships page on our web site.

Make an Introduction: If you know people at corporations, foundations, publishers and other places that you think might be interested in learning about us, please let us know by emailing info@roomtoread.org.

Please note on any correspondence that you are a Students Helping Students parent. This will help us understand the impact of our program on adults as well as children, so that we might alter or expand the program accordingly.

Thank you for partnering with us to help your children and children thousands of miles away!
