Hopefully by now you have spent some time learning about Students Helping Students, exploring
Nepal, and discovering ways to take action. Now it's time to find out how to take the steps
toward getting involved!
-
Read through the Frequently Asked Questions. We
receive many similar questions from all sorts of people and have tried to answer the most
popular questions.
-
Explore the potential Fundraising
Ideas with your class, school or club. Try to raise awareness within your school
or organization so that you can get more people interested. Please see our lesson plan Moving
Mountains: Big Ideas Start Small to see how a few people can create a landslide of action.
Another great resource is our lesson plan on Communities Matter, in which we dsicuss how
schools and clubs can discover their own strengths and talents. Then decide what type
of project you want to do.
-
Set a fundraising goal for your school or club. Your goal can be a few
hundred dollars to contribute to a program or several thousand dollars to establish a library
or sponsor a new book. Click here to find out more about sponsoring a program and how much it
costs. [D - link to sponsoring books and libraries page]
-
Appoint a Students Helping Students program leader or committee. This person
/ people will be the key contact person with Room to Read.
-
Once you have a goal and an idea, let us know about it. You can write to us
at shs@roomtoread.org. We will prepare internally for
your fundraiser and answer any questions you might have
-
When you raise funds, please collect all individual donations and issue one or two
large checks to Room to Read. We have many schools participating and unfortunately do
not have the resources to process hundreds of small checks. Please help us make this program
work for everyone and ensure that 90% of your donations go to children in need instead of
processing and paperwork.
-
If you are raising money for a specific project, be sure to note it on the
check(s) so that we can record it accordingly.
-
Feel free to send in pictures and/or summaries of your activities. If the
idea is creative and new, we will be sure to let everyone know about it. We might even ask you
to help us put a case study together so that other Students Helping Students participants can
learn from your success.
-
Visit the Students Helping Students website often! We will keep you updated
on the results of your work and how we are educating children in the developing world.
-
If you have comments or suggestions about the website or program, please feel free to email us
at shs@roomtoread.org.
