About Room to Read Chapters

Room to Read depends on our chapter leaders and chapter members to help us achieve our annual fundraising goal and to represent Room to Read. Our chapters are comprised of groups of individuals who have made a long-term volunteer commitment to promoting Room to Read within their networks and communities. The chapters organize annual fundraising events, introduce us to potential corporate, foundation and individual supporters and act as representatives for Room to Read within their area.

About the
San Diego
 Chapter

The San Diego Chapter launched in the fall of 2006 with a successful event at UC San Diego. Not only did chapter co-founders Darah and Marshall Roslyn inspire many guests to donate, many dedicated volunteers committed to sharing in the passion and effort of creating world change through educated children. Darah and Marshall brought early success to the chapter and have since moved to China.

Now, with leaders, Karen Baez and Dr. Sherry Nooravi, our focus in San Diego is to build a sustainable infrastructure for the chapter, create awareness events throughout the year, hold an annual gala in the fall, and engage students and teachers through our Students Helping Students program.

Global Runway for Literacy: Thursday, October 21st

We invited Read members to join San Diego's philanthropic and fashion-forward community for the San Diego Chapter's Global Runaway for Literacy gala event on October 21, 2010. The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising will provide the backdrop to a stylish evening complete with globally infused entertainment, fine food, wine and beer, and an inspirational presentation by Room to Read's CEO and Co-Founder, Erin Ganju. In addition to learning more about Room to Read's incredible achievements in just ten years, attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with local designers who took on the challenge of creating wearable art inspired by literacy and gender equality in education.
