We work in collaboration with communities and local governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need to succeed in school and beyond. Join us in changing the world through the transformative power of education.

Establish a brand
new school library.

Help thousands of children develop a lifelong love of reading by establishing a brand new school library. Filled with print-rich decorations, child-sized furniture and hundreds of colorful books in the local language, your library will inspire generations of young readers and provide a safe space to learn and play. If available, we establish the library in existing classroom space. In other schools that may be overcrowded, we work with the community to construct a new building to house the library.

When it's complete, we will send you a full completion report for your library with photos and information about the community it serves, and provide three years of ongoing library management training for the school's teachers and administration.

Publish an original
children’s book.

High-quality, age-appropriate books in local languages can be scarce in developing countries, so we find local authors and illustrators to develop original children's books in 25 local languages. We conduct regular writers' and illustrators' workshops to cultivate talent and distribute the books to our network of libraries, capturing the imagination of thousands of children.

By investing in one of our titles, you'll fund the development of the book and the printing of thousands of copies. You'll also have the opportunity to add your own dedication language to the inside front cover and receive a copy of the finished product once it's printed.

Adequate schools are often scarce in Asia and Africa, especially in rural areas. We partner with communities to construct bright, safe, child-friendly classrooms, giving all children a better chance at a quality education.

Your investment can improve learning conditions for hundreds of children per year, but that's just one piece of the puzzle. Each building is viewed as a co-investment between you, Room to Read and the local community, meaning that they share in the project management responsibilities and contribute substantial resources of their own through our Challenge Grant model.

Once complete, your building will bear a dedication plaque with language of your choosing.

When you educate a girl, everything changes. For girls in Asia and Africa, finishing secondary school leads to smaller, healthier families, lower HIV infection rates, and higher wages. And as an added bonus, educated women are more likely to educate their own children–ending the cycle of illiteracy in one generation.
