In 2011, Room to Read had an exciting year. We achieved operational launch in our tenth country, Tanzania, distributed our 10 millionth book and were awarded the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy. Last year alone, we established 1,907 libraries, constructed 114 schools, published 154 original local-language books and supported more than 13,000 young women through our Girls’ Education program. To date, Room to Read has now impacted the lives of more than 6.5 million children. You can read just how we did it in our latest annual report or through our annual report microsite.

Room to Read Celebrates Year of Tens
Room to Read recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary with the opening of its 10,000th library in Nepal. Over the last decade, Room to Read has scaled exponentially to impact more than 4 million children in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zambia.

Atlassian Summit
Atlassian, a global software company, raised over $110,000 for Room to Read by offering $5 licenses of their two flagship products, JIRA and Confluence in April 2009 and they will be at it again in October. Watch John Wood give thanks and present Room to Read during their 2009 Atlassian Summit.
