About Room to Read Chapters

Room to Read depends on our chapter leaders and chapter members to help us achieve our annual fundraising goal and to represent Room to Read. Our chapters are comprised of groups of individuals who have made a long-term volunteer commitment to promoting Room to Read within their networks and communities. The chapters organize annual fundraising events, introduce us to potential corporate, foundation and individual supporters and act as representatives for Room to Read within their area.

About the
New Hampshire
 Chapter

Welcome! We are delighted to launch the New Hampshire Chapter! Lauren and Stacey are both action-oriented educators who share a passion for literacy, teaching, and learning. We got involved after reading John Wood's inspiring book Leaving Microsoft to Change the World. Our goal is to collaborate with others who share the same desire to help students in developing countries access the appropriate tools which provide the opportunity to build necessary literacy skills. Literate children will grow to become active global contributors to society. We strive to instill in students a passion for learning that will ultimately encourage life-long learning habits.

Lauren O'Brien
As a first grade teacher, I am extremely passionate about reading instruction. I strive to build confidence in beginning readers by providing students with effective strategies and fostering intrinsic motivation. I share the belief that all children deserve an equal right to education. After reading John's book, I knew Room to Read was how I could share my love for literature with others!
Stacey VanAlstine
I am a second grade teacher who joined Room to Read because I agree with its mission that world change begins with educated children. I am passionate about the power of education, and realize it is the most sacred gift that anyone can give to a child.
