YOU CAN'T GIVE UP READING, BUT YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR A CHILD TODAY

CHANGE A GIRL'S FUTURE

Educated women are more likely to educate their own children – ending the cycle of illiteracy in one generation. Yet 2/3 of the illiterate population is female.

Room to Read focuses on equalizing education for girls in secondary school to ensure they can graduate. We accomplish this by helping communities learn the value of educating girls and by providing girls with the mentorship, support and the life skills they need to succeed.

GIVE A SCHOOL ITS
FIRST LIBRARY

Can you imagine trying to learn to read without books? One of the major challenges facing students learning to read in the developing world is access to books and a lack of children’s books in their own language. Room to Read establishes and nurtures vibrant school libraries so that children can fall in love with reading. To fill these libraries, Room to Read also fosters the talent of local children’s authors and illustrators to create books in the child’s local language that wouldn’t otherwise exist.

EQUIP A TEACHER

In many parts of the world, children walk miles to get to their classrooms and families make heavy sacrifices to keep their children in school. Yet despite making it inside the classroom, millions of these children are still not achieving crucial literacy skills. To change this, Room to Read trains and equips teachers with all of the skills and materials they need to engage students and help them become independent readers.
